News: Charity Head Shave £742.96

10 a.m. to 3 p.m. - St. Stephens Shopping Centre, Hull - 31st October 2015

After a successful day at St Stephens on Saturday 31st October the final total raised for Macmillan Cancer Support was £742.96.

Anyone still wishing to donate can do so direct to Macmillan at https://bravetheshave.org.uk/shavers/rebecca-clinton/

This was a major challenge for me in support of a great charity, raising money for a fantastic cause (Macmillan Cancer Support) and donating my hair to The Little Princess Trust for wigmaking.

I wanted to use this event as a way to prove to everyone that you don't need to look a certain way, everyone is so hung up on body image nowadays - you don't have to dress right or be a certain body type to be beautiful - it is WHO WE ARE that makes us beautiful - we don't need to hide behind these things.

This was a huge challenge for me because I love my hair - I cried both times it was cut short (twice in 32 years) - some people don't have a choice.... I choose to stand beside them and show my support the best way I know how.

Can I give a huge thanks to all those who came along to support me on the day, and all of those who kindly donated - 1 hours time from a Macmillan Nurse costs just £29 - thanks to your generosity we have supported 26 Macmillan Hours.

News: Race for Life - 12th July 2015

Once again I ran Race for life this year with some of my Clients. Sarah and Diane (my mum) came along again to try to better their time from last year, Rachel joined us for her first attempt after increasing her fitness at my boot camps, and Uzma – who not long ago couldn’t run!

In January time, early 2015, Uzma asked me one day if I could get her running – She had little confidence at this point, and when I suggested she would be ready for race for life she laughed.

The months leading up were hard work for her. The first time we went out it was no further than a mile and she walked a lot of it, but we went out time and time again, each time increasing distance and encouraging a steady pace.

Eventually we got to the 5km distance, which took just over an hour. So next was speed.

Uzma pushed and pushed, and even started going out on her own as she got the bug. Her final leap of motivation was seeing me run the Beverley 5k in 26 minutes the Hull 10k in 55 minutes – She wanted to do that one day! Her last run before Race day was still around 45 minutes but she wanted to do it in 35. I ran with her every step of the way to keep her going – I’m so very proud of her, she struggled to push herself through the last 300 meters, the crowds shouting helped - but amazingly she crossed the finish line in 33 minutes. What an amazing lady!

Sarah and Diane crossed the line around the same time as last year, but had a more constant run, and Rachel surprised us all – very pleased with her first race getting in at 25 minutes!

Once again – A big well done to all my ladies!

News:Asda 10k - Give James A Voice - 14th June 2015

Team James

Team James was made up with clients, friends, and members of the James Walker 100 fundraising group. The aim to run the Asda 10k and raise as much money as possible for James.

The day started with rain and was overcast but remained fair for our run - everyone running their own race, looking for their own Personal Best, but all running with James in their minds and in their hearts.

Everyone completed the race and I am pleased to report that, including the money raised on the open day, our grand total was £1120.86, our total was added to the money raised by the James Walker 100 and on 1st October we attended Frederick Holmes school where James was presented with his machine to everyones delight. The group had been so successful in their fundraising and with other offers that had come in a further 3 machines were donated to the school - it was an emotional yet satisfying day.

James with his Mum Gina. The latest news from Gina is that James is improving all the time and has already told her that he doesn't like her singing - Christmas will be extra special for them this year. I feel incredibly honoured and proud to have been involved with the team that made this happen.

News:Beki on Humberside Radio

Beki was invited to Humberside Radio on Saturday 21st February 2015 to talk about herself, her business and to go through the morning Newspapers.

News:New Fitness Centre - Open Day - 31st January 2015

BA Personal Training & Fitness Studio

It has always been my dream to own my own studio, 31st January saw the realisation of that dream allowing me to offer training in a private studio with all the benefits of going to a gym.

To mark this I held an Open Day at the Studio and asked local boy James Walker and Mum Gina to come along and cut the ribbon.

Beki and James

James was born a normal healthy child – his first injections left him severely disabled, having 100’s of fits each day and unable to speak. His disabilities make it impossible for him to sign leaving him unable to communicate with the world. He was at 16 years of age introduced to a Tobii Eye Gazer - this clever machine detects his eye movements enabling him to work the computer via eye movement and then SPEAK via the computer. After 16 years of silence James’ mum was reduced to tears when she heard his first words 'Hello Mum'. James only has access to this machine at school, and only for 15 minutes at a time, twice a week! Imagine having never been able to communicate, imagine only speaking for 15 minutes twice a week!

In order to raise money towards the machine James so deparately needed Rob, Diane, Uzma and myself attempted a static bike ride from Beverley to Whitley Bay - 222 km

Uzma open day Rob open day Diane open day

Unfortunately the 31st January was the coldest and wettest day of the year but despite the lack of visitors our 'Give James A Voice' team battled on and completed 100 km in just 5 hours and 34 minutes raising just short of £100 which was later added to monies raised in the Asda 10k run.

News: Client Success, Mark Blagg

Mark has struggled with his weight for various reasons, but has never given in. Over our time training together, he got stronger and fitter but was struggling to lose the weight with outside influences away from the gym, including unsociable working hours.

Earlier this year (2014) Mark told me he had a new target, he had just booked a once in a lifetime trip to Thailand and Australia. His biggest challenge? To climb 1439 steps up the to the very top of Sydney Bridge to overlook the skyline of Sydney harbour.

This not only meant fitness levels – but he was too big for the safety equipment. Determined not to lose the chance to do this he set hard to work! The photos tell you the rest!! He has done amazing the last few months, and now currently in Australia is shouting about his amazing trip on face book – and why not?? He just climbed 1439 steps!!! Awesome work mark!!! Well done ^_^

News: Race for Life July 2014

Race for Life 2014 was a massive milestone for 3 of my clients, my mum Diane , Sarah and Sapphire. None of them had run this distance before so they were all quite nervous. I set them a target time of 40 minutes, partly to spur them on, but partly because I had faith they could do it! I did a practice run with Sarah, to prove she could go the distance with her asthma, and came out at 47 mins. I did the same with mum/Diane, who cleared it in 43 mins. So all that was left was to beat their times on the day!

Race day came, nerves were up – but off we went. Taking it at their place, but pushing them on. Walk if you need to catch your breath but run as soon as you are ready! It got tougher for them towards the end, but Sarah went into mission mode and started to get ahead. In the last 50 meters I sent Sapphire and Sarah to finish as quick as they can and carried on talking to mum, convincing her she could still run the last bit, pushing on to beat her own target! She pushed and she pushed – and she crossed at finish line in 36 mins!! Sarah and Sapphire crossed in 35! They not only hit target, but smashed it!

I left them with proud hugs, and food for thought of the Jane Tomlinson 10k I want them to run next year – I’m one proud Personal Trainer, as these girls made an amazing effort.

Event: Tough Mudder 3rd August 2014

Tough Mudder

After the challenge of Yorkshire Warrior earlier in the year, my fellow mud runner Neil and myself decided to go for a big challenge by Entering Tough Mudder on 3rd August 2014.

You can check out our video below or follow my blog post about the day

Losing my mudder cherry!

Tough Mudder is a 10-12 mile obstacle course designed to test all-round strength, stamina, teamwork and mental grit. More than a fitness challenge, Tough Mudder is a set of core values both on the course and in everyday life. Mudders pledge to put teamwork and camaraderie before their course time, help their fellow Mudders complete the course, and overcome all fears. For a Tough Mudder, life is about pushing boundaries and overcoming obstacles through teamwork – and having fun along the way.

In addition to turning thousands of acres of classic Yorkshire moorland into a marvel of Mudder mayhem, TM Yorkshire is sure to make mincemeat out of mediocre Mudders. Running over rough, rolling fields, through daringly dense woodlands and into streams, bogs and pools of thick, heavy mud and clay, every step on this course feels like an obstacle in itself.

Event: Major Series 10km for Charity - 12th October 2014

Major Series 12 October 2014

This event will finish the year off nicely on 12th October 2014. This one is not just me and my Mudder Neil, but we will be in a team of 18. Most of which have never done an assault course or anything like. This is a massive training event for a number of my clients as well as others that are using the chance to prove something to themselves.

We are doing this event not just for ourselves – but also for the Corra Charity visit: http://corra-charity.co.uk/

Voted the UK's 'Best Trail Race', the award-winning Major Series is the UK's most friendly obstacle race! The 5k and 10k courses are littered with all kinds of obstacles, hills, mud and water, but most importantly, are full of over 40 of the Major's finest troops, there to help you through the obstacles, but maybe challenge you to a few too!

The Major Series is all about teamwork - it's not just a run. Determination and the camaraderie of your fellow countrymen will help you through. Believe it or not, you will take part in the entire challenge with a huge grin on your face! Come along ready to take on a big challenge but most importantly to have a laugh, meet some new people, and maybe even get your own back on the Major!

Event: Yorkshire Warrior 2014

Yorkshire Warrior 2014

Yorkshire Warrior April 12th 2014

This was a first time event for my Mudders Neil, Kate and I. We trained long and hard to be ready. I’m not going to lie – We were crapping ourselves!

I am not able to run long distance due to problems with my knee/hip (IT Band), my biggest distance pain free is 3 miles, so I really wasn’t sure how I would fare a 12 mile assault course!

Yorkshire Warrior is the ultimate challenge, 10 tough miles across Yorkshire countryside with hills, bogs, 200m river walk, 1km underground tunnel (yes, you read that right... one full kilometre underground!!) fire, ice bath, barbed wire, electric fence, crawling, climbing, log carrying, plus lots more!

As you can see from the photo, not only did we make it, but we picked up a 4th member of the team! Pushing each other on, we made it to the end. 3 Miles in, right on cue I was in pain. Stumbling the next 7 miles, sprinting up hills, sliding through mud, climbing over fences! Team work was the key; we helped each other and others through, over, under obstacles and clinging onto each other as we slid through mud – not to mention the pitch black tunnel! It was hard work and very tiring, but the best bit? We had an awesome day!! The event brought us closer together as friends and our need for climbing over things has increased! Who said you had to grow old?

This isn’t us but you get the idea...

News:March 2014 - Xercise4less Largest Loser Competition

Robert - Lagest Loser

Congratulations To Robert!

Being part of the Largest Loser competition was fantastic. I didn’t really know what I was volunteering for at first, but when the teams were picked and given out – I couldn’t have asked for a better team. You never know what to expect from people until you see them train, and Robert amazed me from the very first day! He tired quickly, but didn’t give in and just went for it. Every session there on in, whatever I threw at them he got on with it – Beast mode well and truly engaged! Every session he pushed to beat previous times, run faster, go a higher level and even when he struggled to stand he still would not give in until he had finished the challenge I set them.

I would often see Robert in the gym recreating some of the workouts we had done, often on the same day as our session. He quickly became a regular gym goer and even took up Park Run on a Saturday morning, which is a 5km timed run.

When I sent guidance notes to the Team on their eating, Robert took to them well – using the basics I gave him he created some amazing meals! The basis of what I sent them was a sustainable way of eating for life that can be adapted to any lifestyle. I asked them to cut out grains completely if they could, or at least bread, pasta and starchy food groups such as potatoes and rice. Drink water/herbal teas, only have a little fruit and to make sure they have it with protein.

I banned my team from cereals and instead suggested eggs, bacon, fish, vegetables and wholesome real foods for breakfast. I taught them about the effect of insulin amongst other things so they understand why I was Robert's Story - click to read moreasking them to eat this way, which in turn helped them to make healthy choices. I also provided them with a list of my own quick and easy recipes to help them implement this way of eating.

The overall response from Robert was a massive loss of weight in just 8 weeks, with a massive increase in fitness! To come top out of 27 teams was amazing and I am immensely proud of him. I can’t wait to see his story continue - we will see him reach 13 stone!

Team Awesome lived up to their name

LeaderboardLatest Loser Team

The Largest Loser competition was run across all of the Xercise4Less clubs as a charity drive for Sports relief. The Hull Club Entered 4 Teams, Including mine – Sarah, Robert, Holly & Rebecca. I quickly re-named them Team Awesome because it summed them up! Attitude from the start, from all of them was amazing! Training with me 3 times a week, they all adopted my diet plan straight away and their winning heads were put on!
Despite the gruelling routine I put them through – They named me Captain Awesome, no matter what I threw at them, they all completed it, pushing with everything they had, then with my encouragement pushed some more!
They soon became good friends and started organising extra sessions each week. We quickly jumped into the top 10 out of 27 teams. And as you can see from the leader board, Xercise4Less ended up with all 4 teams in the top 6!
I could not have asked for a better team, as they jelled perfectly. We got 6th place on the leader board, but they are all winners to me, as they continue their journey!

Holly lost 10lbs in the 8 weeks and looks amazing. Rebecca dropped dress sizes, looks great for her wedding and massively looks and feels healthier and happier! Sarah conquered her fear of the cross trainer and pushed through her asthma – never letting it stop her, dropping more inches to get her into a size 12 top! And Finally Robert, who lost a massive 36.5lbs, not only that, but was also crowned the Largest Loser UK!

They are all still training hard, and their stories are far from over!
